With spring having sprung, it’s important to watch out for all the not-so-lovely treats having been hidden under the snow. Not to mention the pesticide treatment signs that have now become regular ornaments on our daily walks…with all these harmful objects and edibles around it’s important to know your options and how they can be treated. Depending on what was ingested, a trip to the emergency vet may be in order. Usually a phone call to your veterinarian will suffice, however, if you chose to go the alternative route here is a great option researched and presented by our very own Pet Beastro confidant, Erica Cook.

Arsenicum

By Erica Cook

Arsenicum is a homeopathic remedy that acts to heal every organ and tissue in the body.

It is widely known for its use with regards to food poisoning. I’m sure we have all had that one dog or cat that loves to get into everything. I know I have. From roadkill to expired food — to questionable backyard objects — I have had a dog eat it all. Luckily, there is a remedy for the aftermath: Arsenicum.

Not only does this remedy work quickly, but it is safe to use with dogs, cats, and even you! When your pet is nauseous, vomiting, has diarrhea, allergic reactions, or gets into something they definitely shouldn’t have (think large chocolate Easter bunny) Arsenicum will help.

Some other indications of when to use Arsenicum are restlessness, unquenchable thirst, exhaustion after the slightest exertion, fear, itching, and irritability after midnight. Another indication that Arsenicum will be helpful is when these symptoms are improved with warmth.
